18.12.08 Graham Price has received the proposals for changes to the Batson Pontoons. KEBC has been invited to respond.
17.12.08 Thanks to Madeline, Rob and others for their efforts in ensuring the Christmas Party was a success. Thanks also to Tony & Martin (The Whalers) who along with club stalwarts, provided the entertainment. Graham Price did a presentation to John Roberts for the work he has done in helping establish the Club from its fledgling days, and in particular for his work on the early website and eight issues of the newsletter.
10.12.08 KEBC 2009 tide tables on sale
01.12.08 Members of KEBC wish Neil White, founder member of the British Hydrographicological Society, a happy 70th birthday.
20.11.08 All tickets for Christmas Party sold.
19.11.08 A packed indoor meeting on 19 November 2008 was delighted with a thoroughly positive presentation from the local Police team about the successes they were having in dealing with (very limited) marine crime in the Harbour/Estuary. Salcombe Harbour Master, Ian Gibson, also addressed the meeting. It was clear to all, and very much appreciated by KEBC members, that there is a commitment in the Harbour Office to bring about the sorts of improvements that, as far as are practically and "fiscally" possible, we all wish to see.
17.11.08 A KEBC member reports that his locked Yamaha inflatable was stolen from the stack at Newbridge Bowcombe. See messages 89 and 90.
28.10.08 News of Members. Mary, who is related, by marriage, to the struggling KEBC website supervisor, did something amazing yesterday. She gave her blood; well some of it. And she received a super pen, slate mug mat, gold badge and certificate in recognition of giving over 50 pints over several years. She's desperately working out whether, at a maximum of 3 armsful a year she'll reach the magical 75 pints before she's forced to retire.
24.10.08 Graham has also sent in a map of the Estuary & Harbour showing the new speed limits. Bob Burnside also thanks members for supporting his RNLI stall (message #85) at the first indoor meeting on 15 October 2008.
15.10.08 KEBC was pleased to welcome Mr Edward Hannaford, a well known resident of Salcombe, Master Boat Builder and former Salcombe Lifeboat mechanic, to the first indoor meeting. After his delightful talk, the Club presented him with the framed original artwork which was part of a series of caricatures of local people drawn by Neil White and published in the Kingsbridge & Salcombe Gazette in 1969. This one clearly captured Edward as a younger man!
12.10.08

In the hours of darkness on Saturday night (11 October 2008) the mast of the KEBC Kingsbridge in Bloom dinghy was broken. It was repaired on Sunday morning. This is the reason it is about 18 inches shorter now. It's good to know it hasn't been vandalised for so long but disappointing that it has!

11.10.08 KEBC Boatwatch Co-ordinator has been informed that last week three men were arrested for attempting to steal a boat/equipment from the Batson area. It is quite likely that they are the ones that have caused a spate of thefts in Kingsbridge over the last couple of months.
21.09.08 Congratulations to the Kingsbridge in Bloom participants who were awarded a Silver Gilt medal for their efforts.
21.09.08 The KEBC committee will be meeting on 1 October 2008. Let the Chairman or Vice Chairman know of any item you would like them to discuss.
13.09.08 Several members turned up to support the Crabshell Inn's fund-raising "golf over the water" for the RNLI. Well done to Dave & Yvonne for raising over £300. The Hydrographicological Light Orchestra received £6.44 in their collection bucket for the RNLI. In addition KEBC members Bob and Brenda Burnside ran an RNLI stall and raised over £65.
24.07.08 Graham Price has received the following request "We have a student from Exeter who is very keen to hear the instant we get our next red tide in Kingsbridge. I am asking if you would please keep an eye on the water as you pass Kingsbridge Creek or over the Newbridge at Bowcombe Creek and let me know as soon as the water starts turning that opaque burgundy red colour? It's happened for the last 7 years on the trot, so I do expect our next any time now! Nigel Mortimer Estuaries Officer - South Devon AONB Unit Follaton House, Plymouth Rd, Totnes, Devon, TQ9 5NE 01803 861465"
17.07.08 A record turnout at the 16 July 2008 social get together at the Crabshell.
16.07.08 Robert James Moore MBHS became the first Welsh member of the British Hydrographicological Society on 16 July 2008. He recited the following oath. “R’wyf i Robert James Moore un credu’n ddwysol fod cwch yn mynd i fynu ac i lawr y bryn, yn ddibynol ar y llanw”. (More information is given on the BHS website)
07.07.08

Next Club event is the monthly informal get together at the Crabshell on Wednesday 16 July 2008 from 19.30 hrs. Did any members manage to make it to Millbay for the Club's "day on the beach"? Reply on "message board"

07.07.08 The BRITISH HYDROGAPHICOLOGICAL SOCIETY will be holding its monthly meeting at the Crabshell on Wednesday 16 July 2008 from 8.00pm. A little time will be given over to swearing in new Welsh member(s) in their mother tongue.
02.07.08 Are you using a VHF radio without a licence or training. Get certified!
19.06.08 British Hydrographicological Society. Society membership increased by 150% in June 2008.
18.06.08

There was a good turnout for the informal meeting at the Crabshell.

02.06.08 The Boatwatch Co-ordinator has received the following message from the local police "Between 190508 and 300508 a 15hp Suzuki black outboard was stolen from South Sands- no serial number. Fuel tank and fuel stolen from Tacket Wood are between 27th and 30th May. Unfortunately with the cost of fuel rising the theft of it is going to increase considerably, unless we can educate boat owners to remove them. During a similar period we have had 5 cars with their fuel tanks drilled and emptied." Members are urged to either remove visible fuel tanks or lock them securely by cable or chain.
22.05.08 Some 30 members turned up for the monthly social get together on 21 May 2008 and several took the opportunity to have a paddle in Dave Halsall's canoes which he had kindly brought along. 2 members celebrated their birthdays, the Club's new deluxe gazebo was erected and a small presentation was made to Kate & Adrian in recognition of their contributions to the Club.
11.05.08 A very successful Boatwatch security marking day was held on the Embankment by the Visitors' Pontoon.
22.04.08 From Madeline Moore. Between 15 and 20 people turned up at our monthly get-together at The Crabshell last Wednesday (16 April 2008). Some members took the opportunity to renew their membership, and a new member joined. We had a great evening with some good chat, including discussions on a new design by Neil White for a club t-shirt [watch this space!] and ideas for planting the KEBC boat for the Kingsbridge in Bloom competition, and a couple of people brought some bits and pieces to sell. The next get-together is on Wednesday 21st May starting at 7.30. Weather permitting we hope to erect our new gazebo outside. So come and join us for a drink and a chat and bring anything you want to sell or swap.
21.04.08 We have been asked by Kingsbridge Twinning Association to let KEBC members know that the Association is having a wine tasting evening on 25 April 2008 (this Friday) at 7.30pm in Harbour House. Liam Steevenson will be the Master of Wine. There will be a light supper and raffle. Tickets are £12.50. The Association will be delighted if you are able to go along. Telephone 01548 853366 for more information.
17.04.08 The British Royal Hydrographicological Society has lost its Royal status. A spokesman for the Trustees confirmed last night that no evidence could be found that a Royal charter had ever been conferred on this learned body. In future it will be known simply as "The British Hydrograhicological Society" .
15.04.08

FOUND 15 April 2008 A set of three keys on a cork string was found near Bowcombe dinghy park. For more details, email boats@kebc.co.uk

13.04.08 KEBC contribution to Kingsbridge in Bloom was tipped over and dumped in the Estuary. Police have good descriptions of the culprits. The dinghy was rescued none the worse for its adventure and has been made more secure now.
09.04.08 9 April 2008. From Bob Burnside. The naming ceremony for Salcombe's new Tamar lifeboat will be on Saturday 17th May 2008 at 3.30pm. I just wondered if any members would like to attend either on water (suitably flagged up) or on land. It all starts at the above time in front of the Salcombe Yacht Club. For more information ring me on 853351 and I'll try to help
07.04.08 From Madeline Moore KEBC Secretary. Here are more details about boat and equipment marking at the visitors' pontoon, Kingsbridge. (1) Sunday 27 April. Approximately 2 hours either side of high water at 1030. (2) Sunday 11 May. As above with high water at 1120. 07.04.08 From Madeline Moore, KEBC Secretary. We thought it would be a good idea for members to keep in touch with each other by continuing our monthly informal get-togethers throughout the spring and summer. We won’t be having any talks, but hope people will come along to meet in the downstairs bar/outside the Crabshell on the third Wednesday of each month from 7.30 onwards to have a drink and a chat, starting on Wednesday 16th April. If anybody has any boat-y bits they want to sell, give away, swap, whatever, bring them along.
04.04.08 Friday 4 April KEBC Boat Watch Co-ordinator Ian Drinkwater received the following information from Kingsbridge Constabulary.
